CF occasionally causes trouble, formatting errors etc. Also dealing with a filesystem and with files and directories that 'should not be there' is a problem, together with a human user interface needed to display and select these choices. By the time you have all this you have 50% of an underpowered, ugly, and unfriendly PDA that just so happens to be able to program PICs. Why not take a real PDA and attach a Wiggler style programmer somehow and use that.
