I have been asked to repair some Weigand card readers. Luckily most of them have problems with the external electronics. One however, has something wrong with the excitation magnet or the reader coil. It has been 30 years since I studied Weigand effects and I do not remember any theory. I believe a Weigand wire has to travel through a magnetic field and then past a coil. I do not recall what the characteristics of Weigand wire are. Google has not been my friend on this one. Could anyone point me toward some information on the theory of Weigand wire and/or readers that sense Weigand wires in cards ?
