I need to put four firewire devices in a VERY constrained space.

Do I have to hunt for the world's smallest firewire hub, or can I wire
device to device with twisted pair?

I've done this in the past, but the devices I used had two firewire
ports and I was just eliminating pre-made cables that were too long
and bulky.
The distances involved are < 4 inches.
