>As this is located at (AFAIK) Harwell, Correct, on what used to be a wartime airfield, and became the UK atomic research centre (AIUI largely because of the proximity to Oxford University). The "atomic" (as the locals call it) is shut down and dismantling is well under way. Now RAL is part of the site, with various scientific resources, ranging from a petawatt laser to neutron sources. Diamond is a part government, part Welcome Trust (along with some European Commission funding as well I believe) syncotron ring. Anyone driving along the A34 main route can see it as a big silver round building. But I am not sure about the gamma rays you talk about, it may be able to produce them, but I believe most of the work is done using short UV radiation for examining molecular structures (which is why Welcome Trust are in the picture). -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
