I have a Cuecat, and my impression is that the focus point is too large a 
spot to scan most product codes. Sometimes it can do it reliably, but mostly 
not. I have thought about attempting to modify it to use a light/sensor pair 
that is designed for product code scanning, but don't know what id available 
in these now (I know HP had a pair in a nice pointed package a good few 
years ago).
