From Nasa Tech Briefs a South African sprinter who wants to be the first amputee runner to compete in the Olympics. He is facing resistance from track and field?s governing body, which is seeking to bar him on the grounds that the technology of his prosthetic legs may give him an unfair advantage over sprinters using their natural legs. My feeling is that the Olympics are an idea whose time has come and gone. Who will care about the fastest "natural" sprinter in the world if enhanced people can do things that exceed "natural" folks ? I know that I would not. It is sort of like the "special" Olympics. A nice thing to support and who cares who the winner is ?
