Not wishing to get too political but....

I wonder about the vast amounts of electricity required to smelt
aluminium from bauxite. In NZ, the Tiwai Point smelter uses almost
1/6th of the country's power generation (and at a very good rate
too, a "sweetheart deal", meaning the rest of us are probably
subsidising it, therefore indirectly paying for that aluminium already).
True, the aluminium is export dollars, although who ultimately benefits
from those dollars might not be the NZ consumer
