80 years ago today (depending on where and when you are on earth) a 
significant event occurred in the aerospace world.

On May 21, 1927, Charles A. Lindbergh in 'Spirit of St. Louis' 
completed the first solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean, landing 
near Paris.

Compared to that SpaceShipOne's "there and back again" around 200 mile 
excursion (quite a lot of which was approximately vertical) is a 
runner up, albeit a momentous one.
