> I've used xicon's esrl series (mouser) in the past (with the LM2940). I'm sure you can find something similar in NL. They make low ESR caps, and specifically caps for switch-mode power supplies are typically low esr. I confess I did use a 'generic' electrolytic once. Worked fine. This was for my use. I would not think of doing that in production. I had a printer design that used a boost switcher to charge up caps to 32V to provide 19A pulses for 300uS or thereabouts. The switch frequency was 300k IIRC. I looked at projected lifetimes for different caps, using Jim William's formula, and ended up with three "cheapo" caps in parallel. This gave dramatically better results than some of the very expensive caps that on first glance you would think would have performed better. Some of the "good" caps had predicted lifetimes of about 5 minutes. -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
