Never used one myself, but noticed it. Here's an IR detector I did with one dual op-amp and a couple of discretes. I'm sure it's lousy - it was just a quick intuitive hack to see some IR signals on my scope - but it just seem like you be better off detecting the carrier in hardware, then parsing the protocol at ~1 kHz, than trying to process 35 kHz A/D to get the carrier clearly in software. -- Timothy J.
