I must admit, I liked the way Ctrl-N in IE would duplicate the page as well, but middle-clicking more-or-less solves this. One thing FireFox v2 did was bugger up how tabs behave when you have lots open. In v1.5, the tab would get smaller until only the icon remained. v2 changes this, you now get the icon and some text. There's a couple of settings you need to change to restore the old behavior. I think there was a previous thread about this, but Google will turn up something fairly easily.
