Yep the idea being I could send an email with a known subject the account is pre-made on my server to only deal with those emails and the rules for the email would only accept emails directly from me . Then have say an automated download of an ISO (linux distro) for example by putting in a command into the message. I found a command line download program http://www.snapfiles.com/get/wpd.html seemed ok but then realised that I could get linux to get files from FTP via terminal incredibly easily - just not from HTTP (not that I have tried yet) Its all just something I am playing with - I don't NEED to be able to do this but on those occasions when I might find it useful (upload or download etc) -----Original Message----- From: pete@petertodd.ca [mailto:pete@petertodd.ca] Sent: 01 May 2007 09:02 To: Microcontroller discussion list - Public. What do you mean by "automated tasks over email" exctly? Do you want to securely trigger a task via a special email message? Or have one machine trigger another machine automatically through email? For parsing look into procmail, you can setup a special email account where any message going to it matching certain parameters, like subject line and what not, will automatically be sent to the standard input of a specified program. - -- http://petertodd.ca -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFGNvQK3bMhDbI9xWQRAgi2AJ9KgBCCaGvSnoeEhF2/ccigoxGIMgCgpWuV BR1W41dGGG5uBfPB7KIJ3T4= =nz7v -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist -- No virus found in this incoming message.
