I would say Adobe photoshop (any version from 7 onwards) Paint shop pro (usually shareware) Gimp (completely free but as usable as Photoshop) http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/ I assume you are using windows as linux comes with this automatically If you are adding any lettering or design - I wholly recommend you use a vector based art package Adobe illustrator Inkscape (free) Corel Draw And the such like As otherwise an A2 poster at full print resolution (300dpi) will be about 200mb + I hope this helps I use most of these packages on a daily basis for work, feel free to ping me off list if you need more help/info.
