I have an old AGP gfx card driving my 37" LCD @ 1920x1080x50Hz , in linux. I had to turn all the EDID stuff off because the screen insisted that it could only do 1024x768. A single DVI cable is able to push to about 1920x1080x74.99999hz I believe, you can probably trade the Hz for resolution though.
