Look around and you'll see some that look like they came off a 1980's ere dot matrix. After all, they're meant to machine readable. There are specs on size, whitespace & the like - http://www.gs1au.org/assets/documents/info/technical/tfs_dimensions_ean13.pd f (only 50k). This one reccomends the font to be OCR-B.
