In the same vein as the other two responded, I think this means using
firmware to reduce (sensor) hardware cost. E.g. an application that used to
use a high-precision high-cost sensor element can now achieve the same
result (or ideally a better result) with a low-cost sensor element and a
PIC. This is what makes them money, so this is what they want :)
