It's nothing about IP addresses, it says the network connectivity is is limited or disabled right? Also you said you can ping other hosts in your home? It's about your router then, whoever is providing that routing. You need to get the log to track down what is the problem - if you do a 'route print' in your cmd window in your XP box you should see no default route most probably. You also has to see this from 'ipconfig /all'. Anyway, it could happened that your XP has a SpyWare or a Trojan and when you access to the net the FireWall detects the attack and disconnects your PC from the net. When you change place DHCP gives you a new IP and until FireWall could not detect the attack you are fine. This is just a bluff but that's what I think from these info.
