Here is the project I'm trying to build:

It even has the hex file for burning into the PIC16F84. For the radio
I was just going to use one of those $1 pocket radios you find at the
Dollar store.

I like the design on this page because it's simple and pretty
low-level in terms of demand what what it does.  Rather than worry
about tuning etc, I figure at most there's only a handful of stations
that could be monitored, and as cheap as these should be to build I
could make one for each (2-3?)

Just an idea, no big or concrete plans. Mostly a fun proof of concept
kind of project.
