Nay it's actually kinda silly. I was driving to work the other day and
thought, how radio seems to play the same 10 songs over and over
again. Then I thought of my girlfriends car who's radio displays song
titles and everything which sparked my interest of how it was able to
do that. After some searching I came across RDS and  a couple sites
with RDS decoder schematics. I'm really new to EE, but thought this
would be a fun first project.

Once I can capture the RDS stream via a serial connection, I can
record the song names, frequency, etc and do data mining to see "hey
Britney Spears is played 3000 times a day" lol.

But there are other possibilities too like you said traffic info.
Just seems like a fun and somewhat simple project.
