Resistors generally look like the ends were dipped in lead, rather than having a wire bar coming out of them as in the picture. resistors larger than 0402 have a 3 or 4 digit number printed on the top. 0402 and smaller (0201, 01005 )don't have anything printed on the top. They appear black on the top, and usually white on the bottom. Ceramic capacitors look like a solid block of yellow or tan, with ends dipped in lead. Electrolytic caps almost always look black with solid bars of wire coming out the ends, then bending underneath.
