I checked the application set up for the file type as Anand suggested, and it is exactly as he said his is set up. >> Also double clicking on the file produces a strange error message > >It is usually helpful to provide the error message. > >What does it say? Yeah you are right. have now fired it up. If I double click on "hlpMPLABICD2.chm" in the "C:\Program Files\Microchip\MPLAB IDE\ICD2" directory, then I get a message that says "cannot open the file:mk@MSITStore:C:Program Files\Microchip\MPLAB IDE\ICD2\hlpMPLABICD2.chm". This is on the machine where the software is installed. If I now access that same drive from another machine, across a network connection, the other machine opens the file, and shows the index folders in the left hand pane, but the right hand pane shows "The page cannot be displayed" for any and all pages I have tried. Both machines have identical file options settings for the *.chm file type. I did a file search for CHM extensions, and all the files from multiple sources produce a matching error message on the system where MPLAB is installed. Accessing these same files from the other machine produces the same result as for the MPLAB help files (index but no content). The second system can properly open CHM files on its own drives. -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
