In which case a chron job to start and stop recording should be sufficient. What is on the channel when they are not broadcasting? It's relatively easy to sense the presence of video. It is not as simple to decide it's 'good' although the usual motion sensing security software would probably be sufficient, and it WOULD automatically create files for 'alarm' conditions resulting from detected motion.
