I'm not worried about non-plated holes on prototypes (those always come plated and that's fine), but I have one type of hole I use regularly for a PEMS-type press-in stud. It does not fit/work properly if the hole is plated (as the "teeth" in the studs don't grip the metal part as easily so they spin as they're being tightened), so I need to specify that for production.
