You don't define "low frequency", so it's kinda hard to tell what the advice should be to you. You do mention "moving spot", I would assume that means you're using an analog scope and the signal you are viewing takes perhaps a second or two of "sweep" time. One option is to turn the brightness up to the max, and turn off all other lighting. By doing this you MIGHT get a hint of the actual trace, but I doubt it. Best solution is to get a DSO (digital storage scope). Many options out there, for low freq stuff like what you describe the cheapest PC scope will probably work well.
