I finally had a long conversation with a Microchip FAE about our earlier
thread regarding lessened margins in the diode clamps on typical PIC pins.
He had been on  vacation last week.

He pointed me to AN595 and felt that the general approach still applied.
However, AN595 uses as a test device a PIC16C54- which has very different
specs.

The only thing he had to offer was that some attempt should be made to limit
the current into the PIC pin with a resistor.

More as I hear more.
