TBH, I'm not sure. The technology is similar but not identical, so
maybe the failure mechanism and symptoms are similar

I have a vague recollection that Microchip use NOR Flash

Could I ask what use could cause you to have concern about
Flash endurance ? Re-writing large tables or data blocks ? If
there really is a doubt, is external NVRAM / EEPROM an option ?
