Yes, I agree with Xiaofan, I' using PicKit2 too. And, I meant "virtually" that there is no real problem. Once I plug the ICSP connector reverse so it was my fault and another day one of the controller did not want to get programmed, but after I manually erased the flash everything was all right - do not ask what has happened. Apart from that I had never ever had any problem, but I just never used these without _any_ external components, the minimum is the always recommended 100nF between Vdd and Vss and of course I have the MCLRE_OFF so no connection between MLCR and Vdd pins.
