I tried Mclr with no resistor first ;-(

Apart from perhaps updating the firmware (reluctant as on dial-up
but will do if really necessary), fresh out of ideas and things to try

(PS changed the subject line - despite being 'careful' I still wrote ISCP,
which isn't helpful if searching the archives)
