That's the price shown here in the US currently as well
(5.87 for I/SP, 5.48 for I/SO)

The ones I got for $1.57 were PIC18F258-E/SP  (now, why those would
be cheaper is an interesting question, but I scoured the list of
parts pretty carefully to find "bargins.")

(but I'm sure you guys in Europe would never THINK of buying
non-RoHS parts... :-)
