TVNZ news tonight reported a similar initiative being looked
at in NZ

although they didn't appear so bull-at-a-gate as the Aussies, pointing
out that such a change needs to be considered (cost to consumers,
incompatibility with things such as dimmers, some HF interference etc)

I do my bit where I can, encouraging people to use fluorescents
where practicable
