For a little de-soldering time, an old VCR or TV board will
yield many useful general-purpose components and quite a
few more goodies, like IR receivers, DC motors, pushbuttons,
transformers, speakers etc. A fax machine or printer will get
you free stepper motors and gear trains. Ask at a repair shop
- they just go in the bin otherwise (likewise inorganic rubbish
collections) and it's totally worth it
