Actually many open source programs now come with a Windows version. Examples: gtk/QT/mono/Firefox/MySQL/Python/Perl/PHP/Apache/OpenOffice/... Examples for PIC: gputils/gpsim/sdcc Examples for other MCU: Winavr/mspgcc/WinARM/GNUARM > and now actively working against any users who try to do something > microsoft or its big buisness buddies disaprove of (drm, product > activation etc) > but the computer industry has developed in a way > that has made it virtually impossible to avoid using it. So the best option is to get Linux or other alternatives better and not just keep saying that Microsoft is evil. Once Linux (or other alternatives) is catching up with Windows in the Desktop computing field and is truly low cost (TCO), people and business will start to use in large scale. This will take a long time but it will happen if people stop complaining and do real work to improve Linux. If there is one reason why Linux would fail, it will be because of those who put higher priroity for political issues than the real end user experiences. Just take a look at Debian. http://www.linux.org/dist/reviews/distro2006.html "Increasingly, however, the delays are being caused by political issues rather than than technical ones." Just my two cents. -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
