You can also use Piklab as the GUI to drive it under Linux. But a port to SDCC is nice too. ;-) If possible ,it is always nice to have a native application under Linux (gputils/sdcc/gpsim/piklab/pk2/pyk/...) and not to use Wine or VMware. It is said that MPLAB and ICD2 debugging work well under Linux with VMware provided that one has a Windows License. However personally I would choose to dual-boot between Windows and Linux in this case since I do not want to pay for VMware and do not want the hassle of using a virutal machine on a personal computer.
