The latter is generally fine. Exceptions include higher powers that can be proven to exist (e.g. In my Honda Civic, a Mac truck is a higher power) and rule systems that do not explain the reasons or demonstrate the effectiveness of the rules (e.g. thou shalt not allow men to marry men because of why, exactly?) If you can base your statements in broadly reproducible, very reliable, easily measurable, proven fact, I don't care what you say. "No religion" was the shortest way I could find to express that. If someone has a better word for it, I'm all ears.
