The problem that many native speakers share, is that they are used to 
understanding a sentence *literally*, rather than trying to put it in 
context and guess the meaning.

A friend from Finland who visited us a couple of years back, said that in 
his country, it helps to roll down the windows when it gets hot inside the 
car. But not in Arizona. :-)
