Actually they are available in dimmable form, usually more expensive, and they won't dim as far as an incandescent. Personally I've never been much into dimming lights, I simply choose a wattage appropriate for the task at hand. But then, I'm not a fan of much light anyways, so I rarely have many lights on to begin with. At night when I'm awake there are usually two lights on, my bed lamp, and a lamp in the living room.
