I, too, am really new to PICs. However, if you haven't already downloaded
the reference guide, maybe this will help.
Section 14 of the PICmicroT Mid-Range MCU Family Reference Manual (DS33023A)
addresses Compare/Capture/PWM in some detail. This reference is available
for download from the Microchip site.

Also, Googling pic pwm resulted in lots of info.
