My lingering memory of Phoenix will be of walking up to an idling car on a 45C summer day while wearing sandals and finding that the (usually) warm air wafting out from under the car raised my feet instantly to severe pain level. I reason that the air coming off the exhaust system is potentially at 100-200 C but usually mixes with ambient air at the 20C level and therefore only feels "warm" to bare feet. When ambient is 45C you only need to raise it by 15 to 20 C to make it very painful.
