I haven't tried safe mode yet. That will probably let me use it, but will I be able to figure out what is using it when it's not in safe mode? I have tried disabling the port in device manager, but nothing complained. I also tried installing another serial port, a USB device that became COM4. I couldn't believe it when I tried to open COM4 with Hyper Terminal, it gave me the same error message (telephony device is in use).
