I don't find iTunes to be super stable on WinXP Home. I'm sure it runs better on a Mac/Apple. You'd think you could get it to play an MP3 while you're doing other things (like checking and unchecking the check boxes for other MP3's), but when I do this, the MP3 playback stutters and skips and generally sounds like $#!^. Some of the UI isn't as easy to use as I'd think it would be either. To edit an "On the go" playlist, you have to sync it to your PC and edit the PC's copy, then sync it back to the iPod. You'd think, from the UI level, that you could just right click on the "on the go" playlist on the iPod and, say, rename the thing, but you can't. That and managing more than one iPod using the same PC is a pain. Other than that, I'm happy with the iPod I own. It was originally shared by my kids, but they "upgraded" to the latest iPod Nano, so I get to use the "old" 30 GB iPod Video. It's pretty sad when you're getting your kids' hand me down toys, and they're only 10 and 12 years old.
