Seen quite a few LiPos swell up in an alarming manner when out flying electric heli's with friends (well, they fly, I usualy have to scrape mine off the ground and carry it home in a plastic bag).  They do get a lot of abuse in RC models though, both from fast charging and from very heavy discharge peaks. And hard impacts with solid objects.  I've not yet witnessed the fabled "vent with flame" though (apart from a few video clips).
