I suspect that he wasn't looking as much for the actual answer as the
way you answered it. This would pretty quickly show up how much
hardware knowlege etc. you had. Just being able to identify the
components was a big plus - then he'd be looking at how you approached
the problem and what tests you intended to carry out.
