Something like an LM18200 from National Semiconductor? They also have other 
nice half bridge driver chips if you need beefy external FETS.

Also Intersil have some nice chips. Look at the HIP408x family. Again these 
will need external FETS, where the LM18200 will drive 3 amps.

All these solutions will produce PWM which will need to be at a suitable 
frequency for the motor, and may require some LC filtering, depending on 
your end use.
