In SX Microcontrollers, SX/B Compiler and SX-Key Tool, bean wrote: Danw, Do you have a resonator or other clock source connected to OSC1 and/or OSC2 pins ? The SX-Key uses these to program the SX chip. The programming voltage is quite a bit higher than Vdd (I think it is 12V). Anyway if anything is connected that is keeping the voltage from reaching Vpp (about 12V), then you will get the Vpp Generation Error. Usually the SX will program with a resonator in place, but you will get all the debugging buttons grayed out if you try to debug. The fix is simple, remove the resonator. Another possibility is that your SX-Key is damaged, if you cannot program the SX52 proto board (you did change the device type right) that may be the case. Also if you have the SX-Blitz, it does NOT do debugging. You need the SX-Key for debugging. Sorry to ramble on here, but there could be many things that cause this error.
