I guess you don't have any stores like that in your area? Near where I work I have 3 stores (Daiwa, Sayal and Electrosonic). Very near to where I went to school there were two (Supremetronic being one, can't remember the name of the other). All of these are bricks and mortar stores with an excellent selection of components most hobbyists use. For the odd time there is a specific component they don't have I order from digikey. But given a choice, I drive the 5 minutes to one of those stores to get what I need.
