I don't think that blocking by country and IP is any good. Most sites that cope with spam attacks use a combination of subscription (login+password) and captcha to administer the Turing test to posters. This seems to work fine. Just do not get email whenever someone *tries*, get email when someone *succeeds* to post. The tries can be counted and tallied later if you want.
