Doing a Geo-IP in the script each time I serve a page would seem to add a lot of CPU time to the already pressed server. In IIS, I can add a list of IP ranges that will not be served at all, and I believe it will be faster. Perhaps I'm wrong there or the answer is to add more hardware, but I really can't afford it right now. All the Geo-IP stuff I've seen so far depends on a huge database or an external service. How would you implement it? I would love to upgrade the web server again (currently a single PIII 800Mhz with 768MB) to a rackmount system so I can move to a better colocation facility. I see some pretty nice looking units for around a grand. E.g. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280062132674 Think it would be worth it? > I'd be happy to help with stuff if its wanted, and i can > donate some server capacity too perhaps (not bandwidth though) Thank you very much for the offer. I'll talk to you off list about that and other projects. --- James Newton: PICList webmaster/Admin mailto:jamesnewton@piclist.com 1-619-652-0593 phone http://www.piclist.com/member/JMN-EFP-786 PIC/PICList FAQ: http://www.piclist.com -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
