Just in case someone doesn't know this: piclist.com is a wiki / blog thing. You can post comments, code, ideas, whatever directly to the web pages. If you register, you can make new pages, edit old pages, and so on. Lots of people do. I'm getting between 50 and 100 attempts PER DAY to post wiki-spam to pages at the site. That is, to post links and messages about all sorts of drugs, sex sites, and other crap that is in no way related to the content of the site. I just did a check and fully 90% of that is from IP addresses in China or Korea. That, coupled with the really annoying questions and requests that are posted in broken English for things that are already on the site if they would just read the pages (read: do my homework) leads me to think about just totally blocking access to the site from those countries. Sad huh? I really don't want to do that, as I'm sure there are some people who are valid users. But managing the flow of spam is just killing me. If I don't do that, I will either have to just remove all the wiki / blog functions entirely, or commercialize the site to make enough money to pay my time. I can set it up so that registered users from those countries can still access the site, but I don't see a way to allow the site to display content and block the forms for the wiki / blog stuff. Maybe if I can find a REALLY fast way to catalog IP addresses based on country in the script that displays the content? Other than that, I'm going to load a list of chi/kor IP ranges into IIS and just block all access.
