For home use, the drying out isn't of too great a concern and a shot of flux will bring it back to life. Note the flux should be from the same manufacturer and if the paste is synthetic then the recommended flux should be used. I used to work for a manufacturer of heart pumps and hearing implants, the daily waste paste would be scooped into 5lt buckets and at a later date sold to another small manufacturer who didn't have to meet class 3 standards. Keeping it cool and at medium humidity (40 -60%) tend to keep it the longest. In a sysringe as air can't get to it, the keeping ability was much longer than the 3 hours for the screening machines.
