Hi Dave: Seeing as how the military designed the GPS system it's easy to believe that they designed it to be "stealth", i.e. that it will not show up on a spectrum analyzer. That's what I thought until I saw the 2 plots at: http://www.rfspace.com/gallery.html which show the GPS signal. These were made using the SDR14 radio following an Icom R8500 receiver used as a down converter which in turn was fed from a 4 foot dish (not much gain at 1.6 GHz) Hi Zik: The uBlox 5 receiver Time To First Fix is a warm start time (like coming out of a garage or tunnel), not cold start. That data rate coming from the satellites means that it will take about 12 minutes to download an ephemeris and that can not be speeded up by receiver horsepower.
